INTRODUCTION

Like I promise, I will tell you how to encode your DVD to MPEG4 format. First, there are mainly two types of DVD that are used for video, there's DVD5 and DVD9. The difference between them is the capacity, the DVD5 can hold data up to 4.7 GB and the DVD9 is 8.5 GB. With more capacity DVD9 can store movies in a better quality than DVD5 in higher bitrate. When dealing with video encoding, your dealing with a large amount of data, we're talking large as in Giga Byte, because the with DVD9 you at least need 8.5 GB to store the DVD in your hard drive. And that's just for the DVD, when your doing video encoding you also need a lot of extra space for temporary files and of course the for the final result video. But don't worry because nowadays you can get a big hard disk such as 200 GB arond $100. Beside data storage, you also need a fast cpu, if you want to finish encoding your video as fast as possible. And then you need a DVD-ROM drive to read DVDs, and some software to enc

Hi All

Allow me to introduce my self, my name is Afsyah a.k.a Afx. I like to watch movies a lot & I also like to collect them. But since 3 years ago I have a new hobby, I like to encode DVDs. I've learned many techniques to encode DVD, I usually encode DVDs to MPEG4 format in AVI container. I can make the video a lot smaller (in size) than the DVD, so I can burn it to CDs or DVDs (with DVD I can burn more then 4 movies altogether). Last I can watch it again with my DVD player (it support MPEG4 movies). In the next post I will tell you how rip and encode your DVDs to MPEG4 format and using freeware of course.
